Studying Women’s History in graduate school caused Cynthia to question aspects of the church for the first time, making her feel tension and anger. She didn’t want to give up her faith, but she wasn’t sure how to reconcile what she was learning at school with what she was seeing at church. Cynthia struggled for years as she searched for constructive ways to use the discomfort and dissonance to help improve both her faith and her church community. Cynthia’s accessible yet analytical approach to complexity became more than just finding a balance or learning to find answers. She learned how to use the space between the ideal and the real creatively in order to feel more of God’s love for herself and for others.
